Martinelli
The Martinelli family has grown fruit in Sonoma County since
1896. The Martinelli vineyards are farmed by Lee Martinelli, Sr.,
and his sons Lee, Jr. and George. Their vineyards are meticulously
farmed and Benovia feels privileged to purchase their exceptional
grapes.
Our La Pommeraie Chardonnay is produced from a vineyard farmed by
George Martinelli located on Frei Road. This vineyard was at one
time an apple orchard, leading us to label our wine "La Pommeraie,"
French for "apple orchard," to honor the heritage of this
land.
This vineyard is carefully maintained, and it's inspiring to walk
its rows. Located just east of Highway 116, the vineyard
experiences very cool temperatures with many foggy mornings. The
grapes produce a stunningly beautiful Chardonnay for Benovia's
portfolio.
Benovia also purchases Pinot Noir grapes from a Martinelli
vineyard just off of Woolsey Road. The former location of an old
winery with gently rolling knolls, the vineyard's dense planting
with more than 2,000 vines per acre produces an intense Pinot Noir
which we use in our Bella Una blend.
