The Martinelli family has grown
fruit in Sonoma County since 1896, and is now farmed by Lee
Martinelli, Sr., and his sons Lee, Jr. and George. Their
vineyards are fastidiously farmed and Benovia feels privileged to
purchase their exceptional grapes.
Our La Pommeraie Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are produced
from a vineyard farmed by George Martinelli located on Frei
Road. This vineyard was at one time an apple orchard,
leading us to label our wine "La Pommeraie," French for "apple
orchard," to honor the heritage of this land. This
meticulously farmed vineyard is planted with a very high density of
one meter by two meters or 2420 vines per acre. Our block of
Chardonnay is planted with two selections from Burgundy that
provides aromatic complexity, vibrant natural acidity and an
opulent texture. The Pinot Noir is also planted to two Dijon
Selections. The single vineyard bottling from this vineyard
produces wines with explosive aromatics and a palate that is both
rich and refined.
We also work with Chardonnay from
the Charles Ranch Vineyard in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, where the
Martinelli's have been farming grapes since the early 1970's.
This remote and beautiful vineyard sits about an hour's drive north
from the Russian River Valley is farmed by Lee Martinelli
Jr. Our single vineyard Chardonnay from this property
is a blend of two vineyard blocks on this ranch; the Meadow and the
Seaview Ridge. Dijon Clones produce what can be described as
the most Burgundian Chardonnay in our portfolio.
